Does Masturbation Decrease Sperm Count?

Oct 09, 2023

Playing solo, beating your meat, choking the chicken, shaking hands with the president...

Whatever you want to call it.

I'm sure we've all come across the idea that masturbation can decrease sperm count. But is it just a theory? Or is it closer to fact?

Let's dive in.

The short answer is no.

In general, masturbation doesn't negatively impact overall sperm count.

But, regular ejaculation through masturbation can lead to a temporary decrease in sperm count while the body tries to catch up.

Excessive masturbation can lead to hormonal changes which, in turn, could affect your sperm production.

Also, some argue that frequent masturbation can lead to a decrease in overall quality of sperm -- including morphology (shape) and motility (ability to swim).

That being said, there's not much scientific evidence to suggest masturbating on it's own can lead to lower sperm count.

The real dangerous threats to your sperm count are found in the food you eat, the clothes you wear, and the products you use. But we'll save that topic for another post.
